"Pushing The Edge" - Acrylic On Canvas
24X30
Cyclists are a frequent sight on our streets today. Interest in cycling competition has also risen in the last several years. The energy and excitement of the sprints is one of my favorite subjects to paint. In this one, I've limited my color palette for a more dramatic effect.
"On The Eighth Day"- Acrylics On Canvas
16X20
If you know any cyclists, you are aware of their almost fanatical love for the sport. They are such a unique breed of athlete that I imagined God himself might have been involved...on the eighth day.
"Reflections"- Acrylic On Canvas
24X30
Probably one of the most visible elements in a cyclist's attire is their eyewear. Most have these wonderful mirror lens in them that reflect both light and life events. I have accumulated several in this painting to capture life moments of many cyclists in one small space.
"The Cyclists"- Acrylic On Canvas
36X36
This cyclist painting is one of the earliest pieces in my cycling series. It has become one of the favorites of my cyclist patrons. Once again, I've selected the last moments of a race to represent the intense energy of these athletes. It's the final turn and just before they stand up to sprint.
"Downhill"- Acrylic On Canvas
24X36
My wife and I spent our honeymoon skiing in Colorado. She asked me if I would paint us skiing down the mountain as an homage to our efforts that week. I did and here it is. Maybe it will remind you of times you spent with a loved one doing something really fun.
"Fresh Powder"- Acrylic On Canvas
38X40
I always get inspired after watching our Olympic athletes in action. My painting style lends itself better to action images, so this one was an obvious selection for me. My goal was for the viewer to feel the exhilaration of the cold combined with the blurring attack on the fresh powder as this skier bites his skis into the loose snow.
"Goal In Sight"- Acrylic On Canvas
24X36
Few sports have the hard hitting fast action than that of football. I wanted to get the viewer in really close so they could 'feel' the crunch of contact as this running back shakes off a tackle.
"The Sprint"- Acrylic On Canvas
24X36
This piece is also one of the favorites of my cyclists patrons. The original sold in about a week to a cyclists half way across the country. It appeared on a magazine cover and is now available in print only.
"One Heart, One Mind"- Acrylic on Canvas
17X30
Have you ever watched the Iditarod Sled Race? It is one of the premier endurance races of the year in North America. The bond between musher and dogs is unique. Both have one thing in common...to run...to win
"Dream Team"- Acrylic On Canvas
22X28
Once again I tapped the action of the Olympics to capture the energy and focus of these amazing athletes. Here, I freeze the moment when one of our 'dream team' B-ballers goes up for the stuff.
"Regatta"- Acrylic On Canvas
15X36
There is a private lake in Missouri that hosts weekend sailboat races. Here I capture the leader as he makes his final turn at the orange buoy and leans back to fill his sail to the max.
"Shot On Goal"- Acrylic On Canvas
24X30
There's no argument that soccer is slowly gaining a foothold in the USA. The moment a player makes a shot on goal is the most exciting moment in the game. I've captured the split second before he makes contact with the ball as the defender runs in from the left. Will it get blocked?
"The 100"- Acrylic On Canvas
24X30
The hundred yard dash is without a doubt the quintessential race of track and field. They field the fastest human being on the earth. The last Olympics showcased some of the best sprinters. This is my rendition of the finalists crossing the finish line using everything they developed in the last four years of intense training.
"The Fishing Hole"- Acrylic On Canvas
16X20
Fishing is a worldwide pastime activity. It's one of those pure, simple, and primordial activities that create a bonding moment for friends and family. Here, a family spends good times together in a quiet cove of one of Missouri's local lakes. I saw them down in the cove as I walked the higher grounds of the park area above the lake.
"Transition Ahead"- Acrylic On Canvas
36X36
Another in my cycling series celebrated the cycling element in today's Iron Man Triathlons. I've watched many of these and the transition area is where races are lost and won. In this piece, the triathletes are nearing the end of the cycling portion and are thinking about their transition into distance runners.
"Final Lap"- Acrylic On Canvas
28X48
NASCAR is a bigtime mid western spectator sport. Most of the 'action' occurs at the turns. Most of the risk taking occurs at the final lap when position is everything. Some make it through these turns and others do not. Life is also a 'some make it and some don't' kind of thing.
"Ballet Of Giants"- Acrylic On Canvas
24X48
When watching a professional basketball game, it's difficult to remember just how big these athletes are when you stand next to them. Isn't that just like life. You learn more about a person by getting close, not standing far away in the crowd.
"The Sweep"- Acrylic On Canvas
24X30
America LOVES football. These enormous men punish their bodies beyond pain most of the rest of us could stand just to move that ball from one end of the field to the other. They will commit their entire body to punishment on the field just so their teammate can be successful. That almost sounds like a parent doesn't it?
"Heavy Weights"- Acrylics On Canvas
24X24
Wrestling...the single most Mano E Mano sport in the Olympics today. Whether you win or lose, you do it all by yourself. There is no one else on that mat except the referee and your opponent. Life doesn't get simpler than that.
"Breakaway"- Acrylic On Canvas
24X36
If you watch the Tour De France, you'll see this many times. At some point in time each day, a small group of cyclists, known for being sprinters, will break out of the crowded pack and sprint to the front of the pack and keep going as long as they can to speed up the pack's pace. Cycling is competitive and this is just one of the 'tricks' of the sport. Here, a small group explodes at max speed.
"Triple Crown"- Acrylic On Canvas
24X30
Recently, we almost saw another Triple Crown winner. But, sadly, an injury diffused that possibility. Even so, I wanted to celebrate the beauty of these magnificent animals and their amazing grace and speed on the tracks. There are so few animals on our earth that have both elegance and power like these wonderful athletes.
