Until I begin my next series, "Heroes", I am enjoying my involvement in our local art gallery's painting classes. As one of the instructors, I get to watch the metamorphosis of my students as they begin each class with self doubt in their artistic abilities. After the first half hour, they are taking photos of their works as they progress and sharing them with friends via texting. By the time we finish (about 2 hours) they are talking about where they will hang their masterpieces. That is so rewarding to me as an artist. Art helps us connect with a part of our being that we aren't always aware of as we do our day-to-day things. It's a quiet place that feels 'right'. Most communities now have these art parties. Give them a try.

I can't believe I'm having so much fun in retirement doing what I love to do best...art. It's too bad life doesn't let all of us do what we love to do for a living in our younger years. Perhaps I was just too careful and afraid to depend on my natural talents to make a living. I had heard the phrase 'starving artist' just one time too many in my life I guess. I've taken a bit of a sabbatical from painting since my little friend and muse, Kurby, passed away. In time, I'll heal and fire back up again. My next series is likely to be called 'Heroes'.
